Waterproof flooring in a Lexington, KY home from Oser Paint & Flooring

What are the different types of waterproof flooring?

Many of us already know about tile and luxury vinyl flooring (LVF), but there are additional waterproof options in vinyl like rigid core (sometimes referred to as stone core or SPC), and even water-resistant laminate. All are stylish, durable, and can be impervious to liquid. Feel free to come into our flooring store in Georgetown, KY, to explore samples.

Understand the difference between water-resistant and impenetrable

Waterproof flooring
is made of watertight materials without special coatings to help it repel liquid. The capability is inherent, and it can either be spill-proof only or underwater for long periods with no damage. While it does repel, water-resistant flooring does so for only a brief time before it will break through and soak.

Impervious options include

  1. Waterproof vinyl flooring, which is engineered LVF to be thicker and more durable. The technologically advanced WPC (wood plastic composite) or SPC (stone plastic composite) cores offer the highest protection level. These never peel or ripple, no matter how much water there is or for how long.
  2. Waterproof laminate: This is constructed without the wood byproducts, for which the original version is so well known. This now makes it possible to install laminate in any room, including the kitchen and bath, where wood/water issues were avoided. Just be sure you specify which one you want, as original laminate is still very actively sought after.
  3. Luxury vinyl flooring: This offers high-end style, extreme durability and can be cut into planks or groutable squares.
  4. Rigid core (or stone core or SPC) plank: A version of LVF, this is engineered to be thicker and comes with the SPC core, which not only offers the highest level of moisture protection but also gives it a firm, rigid hard surface feeling like that of hardwood, stone or tile. It is highly durable and is, in fact, also installed in some commercial installations.
  5. Tile: The classic!

Everyone needs waterproof flooring no matter where we live because we all have those "oops" moments when we drop a gallon of milk, overturn a glass of juice, or spill a cup of coffee.
